Encrypt your documents with end-to-end encryption in ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors

Nextcloud features an enterprise-grade, seamlessly integrated solution for end-to-end encryption. It enables users to pick one or more folders on their desktop or mobile client for end-to-end encryption. Folders can be shared with other users and synced between devices but are not readable by the server.

Note: our end-to-end encryption solution is under constant development. Some features part of the design have not yet been implemented in the client or server code. In particular, as of May 2022, offline recovery, sharing and HSM features are on the roadmap with no fixed date.

How to test end-to-end encryption in ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors

Thesaurus works fine, symbols, yup. Macros - unfortunately, I didn't get to test that much. Now, theencryption piece made me raise my eyebrows. Mostly, because it's a very rough, very experimentalfeature - it does say so when you enable it. There's a combination of AES-256 and Blockchain, and I'mwondering why is this necessary in an offline edition of the suite, and if so, why not add some otherfeatures, like more emphasis on collaboration and sharing?

4. OnlyOfficeIn 2009, a group of software developers, headed by Lev Bannov, launched a project called TeamLab, a platform for internal team collaboration. In March 2012, TeamLab introduced the first HTML5 based document editors at CeBit. In July 2014, Teamlab Office was officially rebranded to OnlyOffice and the source code for the product was published on Sourceforge and GitHub. In February 2017, the app for integration with ownCloud/Nextcloud was launched. In February 2018, OnlyOffice desktop editors became available as a snap package. In January 2019, OnlyOffice announced the release of end-to-end encryption functionality.

OnlyOffice includes an online editing suite. It combines text, spreadsheet and presentation editors that include features similar to Microsoft desktop editors (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Since version 5.0 of the editors, the interface has been renewed with a tabbed toolbar. OnlyOffice Desktop is an offline version of the OnlyOffice editing suite.

ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor is part of the ONLYOFFICE cross-platform office suite that also includes a word processor and a presentation tool. Initially, the ONLYOFFICE project offered only online editors for creating and editing text documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, but the developers also released a free desktop app and made it open-source.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is a free office suite that combines text, spreadsheet and presentation editors allowing you to create, view and edit documents stored on your computer without an Internet connection. It is fully compatible with Office Open XML used in Microsoft Office products. Get OnlyOffice Desktop Editor from the Snap store or install it on the command-line with:snap install onlyoffice-desktopeditors

After testing the pCloud Crypto service for a few days I noticed that I can not download files more than 200mb from the Crypto folder. I contacted support and they said that feature will be supported soon, but currently the only way to download files >200mb is to install the desktop client.

Hi TelB, did you manage to test the server-side encrypted space, as we think it is the most suitable for your needs one? There is no backup option like Rewind for the Crypto folder and you cannot move around from the Crypto to the server-side encrypted space and the other way around due to the different types of encryption. The download and upload with the Crypto might take more time due to the encryption that happens at the same time, of course. The Crypto is suitable for the most secure data of yours and cold storage.

Since we are a web cloud storage, it is quite expected to get the files encrypted AFTER they are uploaded to pCloud. The Crypto sync has never been possible with the zero-encrypted space, due to its encryption and therefore, the files cannot be accessed offline as well. The Crypto cannot be used to encrypt your files on your local machine directly or to allow you to sync the files with the local device and we have never claimed otherwise. You can even test how the Crypto work with the free 14-days trial, so it comes as a surprise to us that we get such a review on our product, which is one of the most secure options that a cloud storage can ever offer!

Windows app is buggy; upload is sometimes locked; you get errors when trying to use sync/share features, sometimes with stuff that look likes timeout in what should be a simple desktop app. Also noticed a bunch of crash.Privacy not well protected, even with Crypto, encryption happens server-side which is not a proper way to protect your data.

The virtual drive works very good and is fast. Even mounting and using a Cryptomator test-vault via virtual drive (so without having that stored locally on SSD) went very well. But Pcloud desktop app with the virtual drive causes conflicts with Qtabbar in Windows. Tabs in Explorer crash, have to reopen Explorer and crashed folders in tabs constanly. I can not go back to a file manager without tabs, too user unfriendlly and kills productivity. Qtabbar never crashes except with pCloud destop client (incl. virtual drive) running.

However, other services such as Tresorit and Sync.com do provide syncing with end-to-end encryption. (I have not tested Sync.com.). The challenge of syncing, compared to manual uploading, is to be able to tell when files or folders have changed, even when the cloud itself cannot access the unencrypted files, and this becomes more difficult to execute when the same files can by synced to multiple devices (because it is not possible to rely on a local flag which indicates file change). However, it is possible to provide substitute indicators, such as an encrypted checksum, to measure change.

I was planning on uploading my 1TB+ archive on pCloud, in the Crypto Drive, to ensure end-to-end encryption. Unfortunately, what is not advertised, and not in any review I have seen is that Crypto Drive can only upload in small chunks (recommended

This well-regarded email provider is based in Switzerland. Private users can get a free account which includes 500 MB of storage space. Paid accounts get 5 GB of space in the mail box. Proton mail offers end-to-end encryption, but this is only really possible to implement if the correspondent is also a ProtonMail user or uses an email system with a compatible encryption methodology.

Canadian-based Sync is a hosted cloud storage service that includes strong encryption, both for transmission and for storage. The company offers free storage to members of the public and charges for a corporate data backup service. The system allows file sharing via secure links and it can be used by companies for team collaboration. All transfers are covered by end-to-end encryption which prevents intermediate intruders from cracking the encryption.

All file transfers are covered by end-to-end encryption. Files are also encrypted on the server with a zero-knowledge system. That prevents the employees of Synqion getting access to your files and it also protects them, should a hacker break into the Synqion system.

Tresorit is a cloud backup service based in Switzerland. The system employs end-to-end encryption for all file transfers and file storage is protected by a zero-knowledge encryption methodology. That means that no one in the company is able to trace the encryption key that protects your files.

File transfers are protected by end-to-end encryption. Both storage and transfers are covered by AES encryption with a 256-bit key. This service is free but a paid upgrade adds on two-factor authentication and the ability to sync to email and a cloud storage service of your choice.

Signal was created by Open Whisper Systems. This organization planned the Signal product as a secure chat utility. It then entered into an agreement with WhatsApp to allow that rival to integrate Signal security systems. Those security measures are now also included in Facebook Messenger. The end-to-end encryption that protects chat sessions creates a very strong security system and is recommended by NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden.
